Blogs

Our 2010 contemporary learning goal was  “Learning is enhanced when we communicate with others within and beyond the classroom.” Through the use of blogs and other tools we have shifted our learning culture to ensure that we are connecting with others to share their stories and experience. In this way we move beyond our classroom walls and the streets of Blackburn to gain further information and broaden our learning experience. Skype, wikis, blogs, twitter, email , guest speakers and excursions are all part of the ways we access new information.

Why we blog!
St Luke's has a number of bloggers: teachers (as reflective practice), classes (as a window to the world) and students as platforms for connecting to audiences beyond our school.
At our school, we have discovered that if we open our classrooms to the world through blogging we gain many things:
- we create an audience for our work and writing
- we can gather ideas from many more people than just our small class
- we can find out how things are different in other places
- we can share the wonderful things we know
- we feel good about ourselves as we get positive feedback about the things we do
- we let our families know more about what we do at school
- we get feedback by wonderful comments that help us think more about what we do and sometimes why we do them

These are just a few of the reasons why.

Student Blogs

Year 3—6 students have individual blogs and can show you how they access these through the MyClasses pages. Children and staff continually use blogs and twitter to communicate, connect and collaborate. One of the strongest elements of blogging is the audience and the audience response—by way of comments! We encourage everyone to log onto our sites and share in our learning.  Maybe even post a comment so our learning is enhanced by what you share with us!

These are written by the students but under teacher supervision and moderation:

In 2011 our new Contemporary Learning Goal is "Taking action that matters." We will continue to use our blogs to learn with and from others and to undertake authentic action through our inquiries, that make a difference to our own lives and the lives of others.  Through the blogs we will share our learning and assist our local and global communities to learn and reflect on ways we can all make a difference through small and large actions!
